The Opotiki News was first published on 21 February 1938 and issued three times each week, its publication frequency changed to twice each week from 8 October 1940. It is currently being published weekly. It was initially free but at the start of 1939 charged threepence for an issue. It is now owned by the Beacon Media Group.
