Henderson Gazette
The Henderson Gazette was the direct successor to the Henderson Independent after the latter was acquired by Suburban Publishers Ltd in February 1961. As with its predecessor, it was published every Tuesday beginning 7 March 1961 and continued the numbering sequence of the Independent.
The new title’s masthead was a merger of the top half of the Independent and the bottom half of the Waitakere Gazette. The newspaper was printed by another Suburban Publishers subsidiary, Ribbon News-Pictorial Ltd of Papakura.
The Henderson Gazette only lasted for five issues. After the 4 April 1961 issue, it was incorporated into the Waitakere Gazette, which became a twice weekly publication (beginning 11 April) as a result. The Tuesday edition would spin off on 27 February 1962 as the West Auckland Press, claiming the Henderson Gazette as its predecessor.
