The News Leader was a short-lived tabloid newspaper first printed on 30 January 1963 as the result of the merger of The Western Suburbs News and the Southwestern Leader. It was published by Suburban Newspapers Ltd and printed by New Zealand Newspapers Ltd, owner of the Auckland Star, while its manager was J.D. Chicken, formerly of The Western Suburbs News, and its editor was C. Ashby of the Southwestern Leader.

The newspaper’s distribution spanned West and Central Auckland, from Avondale to the Waitākere Ranges and Blockhouse Bay to Riverhead and Huapai. The volume sequencing of the News-Leader continues from The Western Suburbs News and is continued by the Western Leader, which the News-Leader was renamed on 2 October 1963. The Western Leader remained in print until 31 July 2025.
