The Taupō Times first appeared on 16 January 1952. Published in Taupō, it initially appeared weekly, then more frequently from 1960 until it settled down to two issues per week. 

The Preserving Local History and Educational Trust has digitised issues from the above dates. 

Under the National Library’s strategic partnership with the Preserving Local History and Educational Trust, Te Pupuri I Nga Hitori o Te Rohe Trust, years the Trust digitally preserved, 1952 – 1974,  are now hosted on the National Library of New Zealand Te Puna Mātauranga o Aotearoa Papers Past  site.
